In today's tough economy and competitive job market, summer internships are more valuable than ever, giving students their first in-depth experience of the workplace -- and the beginnings of a professional network to germinate their careers. 

The National Association of Colleges and Employers reports that employers offer full time jobs to nearly two out of three of their college student interns; and that 62.5 percent of all newly hired college graduates had internship experience on their resumes.

Without resources and preparation, it's difficult for any young person to land an internship -- and for foster youth juggling school with the stresses of independent living, it's that much harder. Finding opportunities, making connections, preparing resumes and applications -- it all takes time, effort, persistence, and skill.

NC Reach's InternAmerica, modeled on Orphan Foundation of America's program of the same name, provides the resources foster teens need to secure an internship opportunity.
